The Pink Sheep is dead..

Yes the tragic news took the fashion world by surprise yesterday, when Fashion Designer and guru, Lee Alexander Mcqueen, was announced dead yesterday at the age of 40. Seems like he commited suicide. So selfish on his end don't you think? Yes he was devestated his mom had passed away a few days earlier, but where does that leave us? The fans? The students? The followers??? What would the skull lovers and fans do? (i.e. Candy floss and myself included). What would Lady Gaga do? This is tragic .. Really tragic.

The dramatic, theatrical and eccentric designers are 3 in this world (I'm referring to the great ones only, and Christian Lacroix, with all his greatness, unfortunately was a victim of the financial crisis) John Galliano, Jean Paul Gaultier and Alexander McQueen. Now that he's gone, there are only 2 left. The two Jean/John are quite old-ish, and yes they are Gods in their field, but really, Alex McQ was more wearable and appealed to women more, no? He was able to introduce a skull, something that's dead and ugly, something that implies danger and death, into the fashion world, as an aesthetic embellishment to any piece. Everyone else followed. And even today, no skulls can compare to McQueen's skulls, or his signature scarves that automatically became a must-have accessory. Before him, skulls were considered sort of a taboo. It used to put others off, and well, living in the Arab World, wearing skulls was a big no-no, accusations of being devil worshippers and such, is never fun(no I was never accused of being one and yes there have been those who were accused because of what they wore and such) But thanks to Mr. McQueen, that is a thing of the past. Now, skulls are merely a fashion statement.. A must.. Eye candy.. worn to adorn! Ooh I'm rhyming. I'm patenting that. Worn to Adorn! :)

Anyway, I know I was planning on doing the fashion collage post once a week, and I did it yesterday, but considering the circumstances, I decided to dedicate this to Mr. McQueen, entitled Skulls, Lips and London Hearts.

Better than Barbie

My pick for this week's rocker chic outfit. I went for a monochromatic look, similar to last week's colours but I'm in love with it. And you can click here to check out prices of each item. Enjoy!

Hearts and chocolates...

Valentine's is nearing and the pressure for us single ladies is just unbarable. Everywhere I go there are hearts and roses and so much red (it's sickening)and this recurring billboard campaign with a message asking the ladies to make a move (a campain lead by Ivy and Exotica). It's the talk of the town and it has intrigued the curiosity of many. It's simple, it's encouraging women to take the rolke of a man on Valentines (and everyday for that matter) where the girl makes the first move by giving the guy of interest a rose. The idea is, why should the girls wait for the guy when they can take matters in their own hands. Excellent approach from Ivy's side! But a bad move for the rest of us who don't have the courage or the ability to go beyond our own rules or beliefs or dreams (knight in shining armour on a white horse) to make that extra step. Why is it a bad move? Because after asking the boys around, I came to a conclusion, they're not willing to make a bit of effort this year, because, why should they? Let's face it, it takes as much courage from a girl to make her move as it would for a guy, difference is, they've got the hang of it because they've been doing it for so long, so now, with this new trend, they decided to sit back and enjoy.

I hate Valentines never liked it. Is it cause I'm single? Maybe but the idea of having this one day where people make that extra effort to prove their love, just doesn't do it for me. A rose on any other day, for no reason, means so much more than a dozen roses with chocolates and jewelry!

To those in love, Happy Valentines. To those who aren't enjoy, and don't sit at home sulking, life's too beautiful to waste it on someone you haven't met yet!

Hibernation... OVER

As much as I've been enjoying being lazy every night, I'm tired of routines. Everyday, go to work, come back home, rest for a while, go to the gym come back home shower and watch TV and DVDs all night. I watched Case 39, which isn't all that, if you guys like a bit of horror, I highly recommend The Orphan, it's a cross between The Good Son and Hide and Seek, with quadruple the nail biting stress. Great thriller with a great ending. I also recommend Inglourious Basterds (Quentin Tarantino strikes again), Avatar (I was blown away, James Cameron was able to revolutionize the movie industry twice in 1 decade. He's phenomenal) Contrary to a lot of what people thought about it, I actually liked Nine very much. (a friend *cough*Coma*cough* and I were ready to give Kate Hudson a standing ovation for her Cinema Italiano performance) It's not your typical musical, nor is it the new Chicago, and definitely not another Moulin Rouge, this musical, had a star cast of women from every single generation, who proved to be multi talented and they are just beautiful and inspiring. To those who love cooking, or actually who ENJOY the ART of cooking, I guarantee you would love this movie, Julie & Julia. At one point I could smell the food (I was watching it on the plane so it was probably right before they served lunch, but that's not the point). 1. it actually inspired me to start a blog, and here I am 9 posts later and 2. I just wanted to go home and try to bone a duck (you'll understand what I mean once you watch it). And finally Princess and the Frog.. Yes you heard me, PRINCESS AND THE FROG. It is now one of my favourite Disney cartoons and it's super cute. Now I'm just looking forward to Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland.

So I decided, actually more like I have no choice, but to start going out. Hibernation is officially over! I have a full week ahead, a wedding at the end of the month and two trips first two weeks of March. And I'm actually looking forward to the hecticness of my full-day program (pre-hibernation). So I bid you Good night and sweet dreams!

Every person has a certain.. err.. need.. That can be satisfied in *ahem* certain ways especially if a person hasn't satisfied that need in quite some time. Well I have a need that needs to be satisfied, and to all you perverse-minded folk out there, I was referring to brain sex/mind orgasms/brain stimulation.. To those who have no idea what I'm talking about, I'll explain to you. Have you met someone so smart, so witty that you can sit and talk for hours on end without noticing how fast time is running? And he just gets to you in a way you can't describe, some call it CHEMISTRY (not the course, the other kind), and you feel this rush going up to your brain and then a certian explosion of so much emotion it's ridiculous? If you've ever had one of those, congratulations, you had a mind orgasm, stimulated by brain sex! If you haven't? Crap, you're missing out!

So ladies and gents, I'm craving one of those. It doesn't happen often, actually sadly, it rarely ever happens (the scratch not the itch), had one a few weeks ago, and now I'm dying for another. But there's no one to scratch my itch! What to do??????? Fine! Ice cream it is! :s I'll keep you posted if any brain stimulation happens anytime soon!

Put a Cap on it.. or Don't!

Last night I was out having an ok time when again I notice these girls wearing Ed Hardy caps and such.. You're in a club, wearing a dress, sequins, lots of make up, lots of bing, stilettos or what not, why in the world would you wear a cap? Is it sunny inside? No! Are you going to jog? No! Why? WHy? Why? Two trends I never liked, never got into, and never would be tempted to even try. Tracksuits and caps. I don't even like it on men let alone on girls. In a club. No you don't look cool. No it's not a fashion statement. And nobody gives a toss what brand it is. Tracksuits are made for going to the gym, jogging, exercising, some sort of activity where you need comfort because you move a lot. I don't care if it's Juicy or Adidas. Wearing it to go for coffee with friends, lunch, dinner is a major no-no. So please ladies, enough with the tracksuits and caps. You're having a bad hair day? Wear a hat. Hats are nice, they're a fashion accessory, go for it. You want to be in something comfortable? Wear leggings and a jumper. It doesn't get more comfortable than that. And guys, lose the cap. Seriously! Unless you're 21.. Then it just doesn't matter. but if you're older, it doesn't work, not sideways, not backwards, not ever unless it involves exercise.

February has an attitude!

Today I decided not to blog about much, I did however take my time in selecting, what I think, is a pretty cool day/night February outfit. Yes I love tone on tone, more than mixing and matching colours. Why? I don't know, it's just having different shades of one colour in one outfit that I find so attractive. And if it's done the right way, be sure to turn a few heads. It's sort of a classic/rock look. Click here to view each individual item, where you can get it from, and how much it costs.

So what...

Are we really the complicated sex? Do we not know what we want? Personally I know what I want, I can't find it but I know what it is. But men, do THEY know what they want? I don't think so.. Had a conversation with a friend last weekend and he told me he thinks about the exit strategy before thinking of how he would approach her. Why? The thing is he's confident enough, I don't think it's rejection he fears.. It's more of lacking the 'so what' factor in his life I guess. But 'so what' gets you places.. If things don't work out with a girl, SO WHAT! You meet someone else.. If you get rejected, SO WHAT! Her loss! If she has a nervous break down after you dump her, SO WHAT! No one's ever died of a broken heart, and she wouldn't either. Odds are, she'll move on, get over you, find someone else, and then she won't be able to remember what it was about you she liked in the first place.
Thing is, nowadays girls are being encouraged to make the first move, and as much as I respect and admire women with such confidence, personally, I wouldn't. I'm a romantic at heart, I want to be swept off my feet, and not the other way around. Ahh days of chivalry are dead people! DEAD AND BURRIED! Men, seriously, enough with mixed signals and playing hard to get, go after what you want, even if you get rejected, you've got nothing to lose, girls, if you can make the first move then go for it, if you're like me, then give him a sign, flirt a little, see where things go, if he doesn't make a move? Then I guess nothing much to say but SO WHAT! NEXT!!

It's a "wrap"

I woke up feeling very bla today, and as I was getting dressed I noticed how bla my outfit looks. Now a bla outfit matching my bla mood, is not a great combination because that would just bring me down even more. I needed to add a little oomph to what I was wearing, opened my closet, and voila. The perfect scarf, designed by my good friend Aysha (yes the girl who inspired me start a blog and has her amazing blog called PrettyFashionForward. She's bubbly and fashionable and you can actually see her personality in her work. The brand is called Melmas (touch/texture in arabic), and they are just funky. They just pop. I've never worn a Melmas scarf and not received tons of compliments. She sews on a small bell (to cast away evil), a pair of miniature scissors (to cut away the old and bad in your life), a coin (prosperity) and a blue bead (eq. to evil eye). She designs one-off pieces by the way and they're wrapped in the cutest way with a personalized message for each buyer. I love Melmas and you should really check her stuff out and I even got complimented on my scarf from a Saudi princess just now! Anyway, check out the images below.

Jewelry with an Attitude (part II)

You know how I started going on and on about the Mukhi sisters a couple of blogs back? Well their new ad is out. Hello Valentines and F*** YOU! "I buy my own gifts on Valentines" is the slogan, and true it is. Who said that you need a man to buy you jewelry on V day? I mean a lot of single ladies out there, independent, working hard, don't need a man to buy them things or to spend on them! Yes we are the women of today, we spend on us and we live, not survive... LIVE! Live, laugh, love, eat, drink, dance, sing, work, party, and spend on ourselves. So all you single ladies out there, get yourselves something for valentine's, call up your friends and go out, Valentine's is over rated anyway (and yes I'm only saying that cause I'm single)! Thankyou Mukhi Sisters for helping us realize that life is good, and we should treat ourselves on V day! Kudos, big ups, bravo, chapeau, standing O, very well done! (check the ad below, isn't it excellent??)

P.S.: This ad and the previous one for the Mukhi Sisters was designed by Republique!
