No Country for Old Me

I just realised how long it's been since my last post. I truly apologise. I was.. hmm... distracted to say the least and I had no time.. at all.. nor was I in the right mind set. Weekend's over, I have a feeling it's gonna be a long week as well and I'm not looking forward to it at all. So yes, I've got the Monday blues.

So the ACM awards were last night, and since I'm not a fan of country music, I didn't even bother. However, I was looking forward to spending hours picking out my favourite dresses on the red carpet.. That was until I actually started looking through the image gallery. Oh the horror. I'm sorry but I really don't think it deserves a post. Yeah I get it, it's country music, but that doesn't mean you dress COUNTRY! That's bad.. bad.. bad.. One dress was stunning. Just one. And I'm talking dress.. Not look. Taylor Swift in a stunning pale yellow Elie Saab frock. It kinda has that Mila Kunis at the Oscar's flair to it. Now I'm not sure about the hair.. Or the colour on her. But compared to the rest of them country folk, she's definitely the sherif. Does that even make sense? Arghh I hate Mondays. Oh and in case you actually like other dresses, I just want to say that I went through 75 photos and wow! Really. Just.. WOW.. And not in a good way. So I just gave up and decided not to give the rest a chance. I just couldn't.

Oh I never got back to you about what ended up happening to 'M' and the whole Aishti/mannequin debacle (click here for a recap). As you know, in Lebanon it's all about wasta (I don't think there's a correct word for it in English, as I really believe it's the Middle Eastern way.. the closest definition I can give you is friends in high places), and 'M' had one with Mr. Salame's partner (Tony Salame is CEO of Aishti), and they actually called and apologized for the "misunderstanding". What a loada crock! Excuse my French but really, it's just frustrating.

Song choice of the day? Something a bit upbeat to get you through this horrid Monday.

Blah-ish,

Oscar Me This!

Topic of the week? Oscars of course. Now to some it's about the movies, to the rest of us superficial folk, it's about the gowns (in some cases costumes). I thought most of them did a better job at the Golden Globes. Anyway, I will not categorise the looks, not that I ever do, but here are the ones I thought were worth mentioning.

Natalie Portman in Rodarte: I get she's pregnant but really she can do better than that. The colour is beautiful on her but that's as far as it goes. The dress is too bland and the matching shoes, clutch and earrings? Didn't do it for me at all.

Mila Kunis in Elie Saab: The Black Swan starlet certainly deserves an award for her Red Carpet looks. I for one, am very impressed. I love the dress and the colour is beautiful against her pale skin. Pure perfection. One of my favourites of the night.

Anne Hathaway in Vintage Valentino: I really disliked this look. The matchy lipstick and nail polish killed it for me. I used to look forward to seeing what she's going to wear, after her last few misses, I'm scratching her off my list.

Hailee Steinfeld in Marchesa: Doesn't she look adorable? Apparently she helped sketch this dress with Ms. Chapman. I think she looks like a princess and it's very age appropriate. Hell, even I'd wear it.

Gwyneth Paltrow in Calvin Klein: Loved it. Not particularly something I would wear, but she can't go wrong this one. Champagne is definitely her colour.

Jennifer Lawrence in Calvik Klein: Now I get she's going for the simple look. And she looks like a bombshell. Claire Danes and Emma Stone pulled it off at the Golden Globes, but for the Oscars? I'm not so sure. I even read somewhere that it looked like a baywatch swimming suit. True though, no? But with a figure like that and a face like hers? She makes it work somehow.

Jennifer Hudson in Versace: She's curvy and sexy and she looks good. The dress hugs her curves in the right places but something's off. And I'm not talking about the tangerine colour of the dress with her purple shoes (not shown in picture), the bust looks wrong.

Amy Adams in L'wren Scott: This is elegance and glamour. She looks beautiful. Not sure about the jewellery though, even though it is worth $1.3 m. Eek!!

Melissa Leo in Marc Bouwer: This is wrong. So wrong. This is an example of a fashion disaster. I really can't say anything more.

Halle Berry in Marchesa: Alas, she gets it right after many misses. Beautiful dress, the colours looks great on her, I love that she's not wearing a necklace instead, she's wearing a pair of dazzling drop earrings. She doesn't need more.

Annette Benning in Na'eem Khan: I actually liked it despite the many hate reviews. I thought she looked good, and I loved the hair.

Michelle Williams in Chanel: It's definitely a step up from the daisies, but I'm confused. I like it and I don't. My problem with it, is it reminds me of you know how women in Arab magazines are digitally covered up for censorship, and you just don't know what the dress looks like exactly, because you're not sure where the dress begins or where the photoshopping disaster begins? THAT's what it looks like to me.

Scarlett Johannsen in Dolce & Gabbana: Her face? Flawless. The rest? Nooooooo. And I don't think I need to justify my hate for this dress. Yes even with the back cut.

Hillary Swank in Gucci: I don't hate it. I do have a problem with the no necklace, no earrings, no bracelet though. Pick one. ANY. It makes all the difference. Barely pass I think.

Helen Mirren in Vivienne Westwood: This woman knows how to dress for her age and always looks spot on glamourous. Well done.

Helena Bonham Carter in Colleen Atwood: You have to give it to her, she never ceases to amaze. The Union Jack garter made me chuckle.. And look, matching shoes and no sunnies. Can't wait to see what she comes up with next.

Mandy Moore in Monique Lhuillier: I love the colour on her. At one point I squinted to see where the dress begins because I can't really tell. I have a problem with it though, I don't like how the crystals don't continue to flow on the gown, gradually disappearing. Instead there's a line in the middle of the dress that has my full attention. Not smart for women with hips.

Florence Welch in Valentino: I loved it. My friend thinks it looks amesh. The pale yellow dress with her pale skin and her crazy flaming hair, worked. I'm not sure anyone else can pull it off but Flo definitely made it work.

Nicole Kidman in Dior Couture: I shake my head in mere disappointment. This is a disaster really. It looks like someone tried to make a wedding dress using chinese take out table cloths and oregami skills. And she tops it with orange shoes. Bad Nicole.

Reese Witherspoon in Armani Privé: A lot of people loved this look. Personally it did nothing for me. See. this look so many times, nothing new, and the Raquel Welch updo definitely proved this look to be very dépassé. Too safe in my opinion.

Camila Alves in Kaufman Franco: Love love love love. Yes it's very revealing but her hair and jewellery make her look so elegant. I love it. Well done Camila. I applaud you. Another favourite of mine.

Cate Blanchett in Givenchy Couture: I wasn't so sure about this dress when I first saw it, then again I hadn't seen the back. The more I look at it the more I love it. By the end of the day it will definitely be a Bambi favourite. Cate Blanchett almost always gets ir right doesn't she? She definitely brings couture to the red carpet.

And now my lovelies, the song that's been on repeat all day.

SAG.. sounds like an insult, no?

Good morning my little Bambinas and Bambinos,

Not too pleased about how this week is going so I'm just gonna suck it up, drink coffee in the morning and wine in the evening (yes I think I can tolerate a drink or 3 now, after Friday's alcohol debacle), and listen to music. Now, for today's post, the SAG awards... dum dum DUMMMMMMMM!!!! In alphabetical order, starting with:

Amy Adams in Herve L Leroux: I'm a big fan of that line actually. To those who aren't very familiar with Herve L Leroux, it's another line designed by the talented Mr. Herve Leger, but instead of bandages, you get draped material. Very flattering for curvy women. Now the dress itself I like, just not on her. She looks pale and pasty and the colour doesn't help with her complexion at all. Sorry. Didn't do it for me.
Angie Harmon in Monique Lhuillier: It could've looked better I think. I like the bottom half I just really don't like the top, and really choosing pink for a dress like that is begging me to call out PINK FLAMINGO!!
Annette Bening in Tony Ward: Lebanese designers are big this red carpet season aren't they? Not a fan of this either but I think she looks good, and I'm proud that yet another Lebanese designer has been introduced to the red carpet. Yes I'm biased like that.
Claire Danes in Louis Vuitton: I loved it. Loved the colour, the cut, the silhouette, the belt, her hair.. Everything. One of my favourites and it was perfect for the SAG Awards. Not too over-dressed *coughangieharmoncough* and not too under dressed. Perfection. Oh Juliet, I salute you.

Drew Barrymore in Monique Lhullier: What happened here? Why Drew? Why? I like the colour 's it. And maybe the hair a little. But the make up? And the dress itself? And no no! Drew you must redeem yourself at the Oscars.

Eva Longoria in Georges Hobeika: Seems like this starlet is a fan of the Lebanese designer. She's been seen in quite a few of his gowns. Not a fan mind you. I know they say "less is more" but I don't think they meant it literally. Love the colour. She still looks better in this than in that black Zac Posen number she wore at the GGs.

Hilary Swank in Versace: She always looks elegant this one. And this dress looks beautiful on her. The colour of the dress works well against the colour of her skin and with her honey locks. Definitely a winner.

January Jones in Carolina Herrera: Not working for me. At all. Sorry Ms. Jones, another miss this season.

Jennifer Lawrence in Oscar de la Renta: I'm confused. I like it and I don't. Like the colour, not sure about the sleeve. I don't know. It's confusing. It can go either way not sure which way to go with right now.
Julianna Margulies in YSL: Love love love. Scarlett is one of those colours that just suits everyone. Doesn't matter if you're blonde, red head, brunette, white, dark, olive tone. It works. The cut is beautiful. Now I know the sweetheart neckline was exaggerated but I think that's the gown's charm/. She looks beautiful in this number. Love it.
Kate Hudson in Pucci: Again, long sleeves, bare back. But this one, I'm not a fan of. Maybe in a different colour? A cream, ivory or off white perhaps if we wanna stick to the almost whites? No. Still won't work. The material is too thin, and Kate doesn't have the right curves. No waist and a small chest. But a killer back.
Kim Kardashian in Marchesa: Looks like an Indian Princess in this one don't she? Love the plum on her. Don't know if I would wear that dress myself, but I think she makes it work.

Lea Michele in Oscar de la Renta: She went from pink and frills, to sexy and shimmer didn't she? Still don't like it though. Her bust looks weird in this dress.
Mila Kunis in Alexander McQueen: I love it. She's on a roll this one ain't she? From that beautiful emerald green to this lovely floral red. Beautiful.
Natalie Portman in Azaro: Now that's a cute dress. I think if Azaro heard me call the 2 million dollars worth of diamond encrusted dress cute, I'd be thrown in fashion prison. But I meant that she looks cut with her baby bump. I liked it more than the Viktor & Rolf number she wore at the GGs.
Nicole Kidman in Nina Ricci: I don't know if I should wonder what has been going on in Nicole Kidman's head with her dress choices, or what has been going on in Nina Ricci's head when she was designing? First Halle Berry's dress and now this? And Nicole? What happened to you? Tsk tsk.
Sarah Hyland in Max Mara: Very cute, fresh and age appropriate. She looks adorable in this one. I like it.

Tina Fey in Oscar de le Renta: I like it and I don't. Colour looks good on her. Not sure about the many many flowers that adorn this dress.
Well, these are my picks. Can't wait for the Oscars. And for now, if you haven't already caught a glimpse of it, the new Rihanna video. It deserves a post of its own, but I couldn't wait.

Very wired,

The Golden Globes III

Third consecutive post in a row, I'm so proud of me. This marks the final post in the trilogy posts regarding the Golden Globes, after that we'll have the Oscars to look forward to, and I still have my NYE post at HUSH, the opening of l'Atelier Nawbar, and of course the Mukhi Sisters' new collection. Actually I'm considering postponing the post a little, because the Mukhi Sisters are on their way to Hollywood as we speak, so that would make a much interesting post don't you think? Anyway back to our main topic of conversation for today, the Golden Globes, who belongs on the red carpet and who doesn't. Here goes:

Natalie Portman in Viktor & Rolf: I know everyone went gaga over this dress. It did absolutely nothing for me. I didn't like the colour, or the rose for that matter. Remove the rose, change the colour, some nice jewellery and maybe I'd like it. And I was especially disappointed, Natalie Portman was nominated for best actress so I expected much more from the pregnant starlet.

Nicole Kidman in Prada: Another disappointment. Absolutely nothing about this dress would make your head turn. It was boring, plain, and so blah. She looks so washed out, nothing distinct about her look. Sorry Nicole, better luck at the Oscars.

Olivia Wilde in Marchesa: WOW! That's all I can say. DRAMA! DRAMA! DRAMA! Stunning, she looks like the night sky doesn't she? I want that dress. It's so Funky Cinderella. She definitely needs glass slippers for this dress. Brilliant.

Sandra Bullock in Jenny Packham: Even though I'm not a big fan of the designer, I loved this dress. I also loved the hair do. I just didn't like 'em both together. But she looks beautiful and it was a good choice of dress.

Scarlett Johansson in Elie Saab: Not much I can say about this one. Scarlett never disappoints in the red carpet. Always looking chic and poised. Love that the dress is the same colour as her skin tone. Loved he bangles. Love her porcelain skin.

Sofia Vergara in Vera Wang: She is undoubtedly one of the sexiest women in Hollywood. Doesn't matter what she does, she's just stunning. But I don't fully agree with this dress. She already has a big bust, why make it look even bigger? Boys, don't answer that! It's a so-so for me. Not a fan, but don't hate it either.

Tilda Swinton in Jil Sander: Am I the only one who thought this was remarkable? I looooved it. he could use a bit more make up. Just to add a bit of colour, otherwise, I loved it. I couldn't help but wonder if Ms. Swinton was trying to pull another Sharon Stone. When I first saw this, I just got a flashback of Sharon Stone's mind blowing appearance on the red carpet back in '98, where she paired off a silk lilac Vera Wang skirt with a crisp white Gap shirt from her hubby's closet. The Result? Spectacular.
Sharon Stone in the Oscars (1998)
There were so many other stars on the red carpet that either looked ravishing or just plain horrible, but they didn't make the cut. Maybe at the Oscars?

Less chirpy and merry today, and when you listen to this song you'll know exactly what mood I'm in. So sad I'm missing their Dubai concert.

The Golden Globes II

I didn't expect when I said that part II will be soon it was going to be this soon, but  I found myself this morning in need to distract myself, and  I thought what better way than this? Today's quite morbid with the political drama and all. So yes... golden globes.. Red carpet.. Hits and misses. Here goes..

Helena Bonham Carter in Vivienne Westwood: When I first saw this I couldn't believe it. What the hell was she thinking. The more I look at this photo, the more in love I am wit the outfit. I like drama, this is far beyond dramatic. Not too sure about the shoes, but Really kudos!

Jane Krakowski in Badgely Mischka: For once pregnant elegance. I think she looks beautiful and radiant. The colour, the simplicity, the flow of the gown with subtle lace. Love it.

January Jones in Versace: Also one of the dresses where I loved it, then I didn't, then I loved it then I didn't. I think I made up my mind. I don't love it. The colour is beautiful on her, with her skin colour and blond hair, maybe if she had a smaller chest? I don't know I just don't like. Sorry January, but this is a miss.

Jennifer Lopez in Zuhair Mrad: Maybe if it were in a different colour I'd like it, but the hair and make up? Definitely a NO.

Julianna Margulies in YSL: I actually like this dress, but she looks short doesn't she? Maybe if it were longer and different shoes? But it's pretty.

Julianne Moore in Lanvin: I didn't mind that it was creased, the material is delicate and she couldn't go to the Golden Globes on foot, so it is definitely going to crease. I'm just not sure about the sleeve. It looks off!

Kyra Sedgwick in Emilio Pucci: I loved it. The colour is fresh, she looks happy, I love that the bag is the same colour (I'm into the whole monochromatic look this season), and the gold bangles really complete the look.

Lea Michelle in Oscar de la Renta: This really didn't do it for me. She looks like a pink flamingo. I would probably wear it if it were in black? Or maybe a jewel tone (emerald green, ruby red, blue sapphire) but as it is, I'm gonna have to pass.

Leighton Meester in Burberry Porsum: There was a lot of controversy regarding this dress. I loved it. Yes it's conservative, but it's a very contemporary Pride and Prejudice look, n'est pa? And I love the shoes.

Megan Fox in Armani Privé: I don't like anything about it. And when I first saw it, I thought it was definitely a Lebanese designer. I was disappointed when I found out if was Armani. And she's lost a lot of weight, she looks like a bobbing head doll.

Michelle Williams in Valentino: I don't know who I'm disappointed in more, Michelle Williams for wearing this, or Valentino for creating such an atrocity. Daisies? Really?

Mila Kunis in Vera Wang: Let me start off by saying, brava for gaining weight after Black Swan, and double brava for looking ravishing. The dress, the make up, the hair, and the colour. Green was big on the red carpet and I actually want a green dress now. Isn't she just breath taking?

Milla Jovovich in Armani Privé: I am not a fan. AT ALL.. Milla Jovovich is a natural beauty, you can dress her up in a garbage bag and she'd still look good. Until she worse this dress. The colour, the cut, the whole thing. Again it looks like it's by a Lebanese designer. Am I the only one who's seeing it?

I still have a few more left. I'll do that one in part III soon. I promise. Hey, I didn't disappoint this time.

As usual, here's a song that will keep you in a good mood all day.

Red Carpet struck,
Bambi
