YouTube is My New CNN!

Good morning..

It's Friday.. Friday.. gotta gt down on Friday... FML. I have no idea how I managed to get Bieber's song out of my head only to get this one playing on loop in my head. It's bee na tough week, be it personal, local, or international. And since I'm not really in a blogging state of mind, I do need a distraction from it all. So, I took the advice of an old Lucky Brand ad and decided to

And who better to listen to than his Royal Highness, the King of Pop himself, Michael Jackson with a kick ass video. That dancer is insane, I wish I could dance like that. Enjoy!

Sex Sells; Money Talks!

Good morning bloggers, readers, random passer-byers (I don't even know what that means, but it had to follow the previous 'ers'). Hope your Monday morning started off better than mine. Not looking forward to this week at all, even though wedding season is almost over (keyword being 'almost') but I had a good weekend, my two and a half weddings were fun and I danced till my feet disowned me. Not complaining, I promise!

I was getting a mani/pedi while watching MTV, when Kylie's All the Lovers came on, and I think this could be Kylie's sexiest video yet, and as much as I like her and her music, I just can't help but wonder.. an orgy mountain?? Really? for some reason this eery comparison came to mind; if you've seen True Blood you'll understand.. I hope.. In Season 2, Maryann kind of puts everyone under this 'sex spell' so they just strip and umm.. mate, similarly in All My Lovers, Kylie is Maryann, and that's not really a good thing. You see it?? no? Really?!? Crap that I'm the one who's twisted. YIKES!

So anyway, a few songs later, Katy Perry's California Girls came on, not much to say, she's this cutie pie who shot to fame because of I Kissed a Girl and well from the title of the song, we kinda know why. Anyway the video included: Lots of candy, whipped cream (that scene just triggers Kelis's My Milkshake brings all the boys to the yard, and by the way, love her new look and 4th of July song, check out PFF's post on that), half/totally naked bodies, cupcake bras.. need I say more? Oh and the whole whipped creamed bra.. or whatever they are on her humps.. or lumps.. which very much resembles the idea of Gaga's -gunned bra (don't judge my wordings on the description, don't think they found words to describe them yet, and yes there were lots of BRAS).

And finally, Xtina's Not Myself Tonight, that's when I noticed, MTV should be R rated. I'd be ashamed to watch these racy videos with my father. AND I'M FRICKIN' 26! It oozes sex and fetishes. Fine, sex sells, I agree! But this is a video? (I miss BSB videos) The bondage video will definitely get most men's (and definitely some women's) heart racing, and we all know what that leads to. It's very S&M Madonna (Justify My Love) meets S&M Lady Gaga (Bad Romance).

And of course when watching all these videos, only one person comes to mind LADY GAGA, and how everyone (well, almost everyone) is trying to.. what's the word? Imitate? no.. that's not it.. Copy? Nope still not the correct terminology I'm looking for. Ah crap, it's not coming to me right now, but you get what I'm trying to say, right? But anyway, even the great Gaga has been labelled as a Copycat in her latest video, Alejandro (hated the song by the way). And no, not in one particular clip, it's like an homage to the even greater Madonna. I doubt that's what the director was going for, and even though Gaga has always been compared to Madonna, there's a big fat line between paraphrasing and plagiarism, as Hugo once said, Don't imitate. Innovate!, and Gaga my dear, your latest video wreaks Madonna wannabe (with a Janet Jackson touch). I won't even get into the whole religious controversy it stirred. But then again, who am I to judge, I will still listen to her music, watch her videos and look forward to what she does next.

Conclusion? Anyway you turn it, if it's not a Madonna clip, it's definitely an imitation or an imitation of an imitation of a Madonna clip! Makes sense? I just felt like sharing!

Lady G and Honey B

Hello hello hello! I know I know I've been gone for too long but I promise, no trips out of town anytime soon (I'm hoping otherwise though). So, what's on everyone's mind the past week? Besides the whole Rielle Hunter and John Edwards scandal? Lady Gaga ft. Beyonce's new video. Not a video per say, more like a colourful short film.
If you guys haven't seen it yet, here it is.
The highly awaited video premiere raised so much controversy that CNN claimed MTV banned the video for it's graphic and explicit content. Wasn't true by the way, MTV aired it an hour after it's official premiere on E! But it's doesn't get aired prime time! For obvious reasons. Anyhoo, what did I think of the video? It was outrageous. The outfits are edgy, bizarre and down-right fabulous. The Striped outfit she had on at the beginning with the strong shoulder pads was stunning! Definitely wearable, alongside the black and white outfit she had on after she was bailed out. I loved the 'latshe' in the beginning about her not having male genitalia after she was thrown into the slammer with a very blurred area The song is definitely worth the praise. The patriotic outfits? Didn't get it. At first Beyonce looked like Wonder Woman and thought hmm.. Maybe.. But what about Gaga? The scenes didn't quite mesh well. There were a lot of question marks, for example the scene where she's covered in yellow tape,
but then again Gaga did say that it doesn't matter if the scenes make no sense, when she has a vision of something she just knows she has to get it done, so that anwers a lot of questions, I guess? I suppose. The cigarette burning sunglasses were definitely an added kink, even though at a certain point watching the cigarettes burn so close to her face, suffocated me.. I felt like I couldn't breathe. And her hair rolled up in pop cans, was hilarious. She had the madonna thing going on, when Madonne first started, only this one is more provokative. I didn't get the point of the kissing scene. Couldn't even tell if that was a man, a woman or a transsexual! But it wouldn't make sense if it were a man, since it's an all woman's prison, and why kiss a woman? She's already gotten the whole world roaring at the entire video. Kissing a woman won't change much, unless she's trying to tell us something
.. hmmmm. It's these little things that didn't really work well together for me. After the whole jail scene, and dancing around with a beautiful studded leather jacket that she takes off to reveal a very fragile and extra thin body in a matching studded leather bra and a pair of very skimpy undies. My descriptions of the scenes are quite random and not in order, but they're the first half of the video, the second half is all about her an Honey B (Beyonce) as the Kill Bill homage starts with the two poisoning everyone at the diner and flee in the Pussy Wagon. I was in love with Gaga and Beyonce's outfits that recreated from Uma Thurman and Daryll Hannah's parts in Kill Bill and transformed to be Gaga and Beyonce suitable! Gaga's "eye patch" was an
extension of her hair that looked like a telephone covering her eye and the phone cord as the strap. I thought that was ingenious.
I didn't get the food dance, but again a weird kink, the blue telephone hat and the scenes of beyonce in the bedroom with her incredible blue outfit, made no sense to me, but
she looks really good. Most of the outfits just scream Alex McQ *tear* but I'm not sure if he's the genius behind them.
So all in all, I had mixed feelings about it and about Lady G. The video is very pop artsy and to for those who are fans of pop culture, I think this takes the prize, it's very colourful, a feast for the eyes and looks very costly.. but that's ok, because the not-so-subtle products that occasionally pop up definitely covered the costs of making this video.
