Break a Leg, 'M'

I'm skipping the morning blas and monday blues and I'm just going to tell you an experience a friend  of mine (we'll call her 'M') had with one very established and renowned AISHTI. So 'M' passed by Aishti with Im A'antar on a lazy Sunday afternoon in hopes of finding something for her mother for mother's day. There was a dressed up mannequin leaning against the wall. Im A'antar wasn't sure if it's a woman or not because the face was covered. So 'M' lightly knocks on the back of the mannequin to prove that it's not real and walks off. A mere 5 seconds later *CRASH*. The mannequin falls on it's side and breaks(the leg did, and according to them, the other leg and the arm). The manager was summoned, and he informs M that this was a piece of art that was on sale for €40.000, and that he can not be held resposible for any of this. He took 'M''s contact details and states that the lawyer will be in touch with her the next day.

  1. Why would, something of that much value, be exposed to an accident of such a sort, like a running child for instance? How are there no parameters, no DO NOT TOUCH sign or a simple price tag indicating it's on sale? Especially that it was clearly not very stable or sturdy and can be easily knocked over.
  2. After it broke, it was then properly positioned to look exactly as it were before it broke. What makes us so sure that it wasn't already broken?
  3. Considering the fact that Aishti is a department store that sells fashion retail (designer brands), and that it is typical to find a mannequin dressed in clothes in such a department store, shouldn't a piece of art be displayed a bit more originally or distinctively? For example different lighting, a base, a glass box ANYTHING that would indicate that this is NOT a regular mannequin.
  4. And last but definitely not least, INSURANCE. Art that is shipped from France with a price tag of a whopping €40.000, should definitely be insured for.. hmm.. I dunno theft or perhaps a mere clumsy accident that can cause breakage?
The way this situation was dealt with was farcical. Yes it was a clumsy act on 'M''s behalf, but this was bound to happen.

The piece of art AFTER it was broken.
I wonder if the artist knows how careless Aishti is with his work. And accident waiting to happen. And it did.

Anyway, I will keep you updated with what happens. Hopefully all will be resolved soon. Your thoughts?

Today's song is an obsession of mine, there's something so dramatically sad yet uplifting about this song. The contradiction between the beat, the lyrics and her voice renders it a perfect musical composition.

Would you think 'The Unthinkable'?

Just finished watching The Unthinkable, and I'm disturbed! More like mortified beyond belief.

If you haven't seen the movie then I urge you to stop reading. Lots of spoilers! And if you have seen the movie, please feel free to leave a comment or PM me your views.

I'm not sure how I felt about it, not as a production, because it's effing fantastic, but what message it tries to portray. First few minutes of the movie, I thought to myself, well not really to myself, out loud to a friend of mine (Im A'antar), Muslim?? AGAIN?!? *sigh* When will it end? I can go on and on about how Muslims aren't like that but unless you have an IQ of an 8th grader you would already know. Religious extremists exist everywhere and unfortunately for us, most of the major attacks are led by fascist Muslims; But of course the hundreds of Afghanis, Iraqis and Palestinians that are killed on a daily basis by any other non-Muslims don't count. Why? because their lives are meaningless in front of the lives of .. say.. hmmm I don't know the Americans or Israelis?

Now, if we are to put that aside, this movie isn't really about the war on terrorism (or so I'd like to believe); America and Muslims! It's about how far you would go to get what you want. Machiavelli; yet again! The end justifies the means. This movie gets you thinking, we preach humanity, justice, fairness.. We fear God and ask for mercy.. But what is this? This is inhumane, this is torture, this is against everything we believe in. Is torturing a number of people (counted on one hand) justifiable to save thousands of lives? Does this mean we're letting go of our morality and our ideals if we say yes? Is there a good guy and a bad guy? Good and evil? No! There's always a cause and a reaction. People react to what life throws their way. Mind you, both sides are fighting for the exact same thing, Freedom. Ask a terrorist why, and he will justify his actions. Take the movie for instance:
I love my country and you crap on it.. I love my religion and you people spit on it.. I'm not a coward.. you call me a barbarian.. then what are you ?!? You expect me to weep for 50 civilians.. YOU PEOPLE KILL THAT NUMBER EVERYDAY.. How does it feel??
Fine! Maybe I'm not convinced with his justification (yes, yes, 'm against killings in any way. Murder is murder no matter how you twist it, but then again God knows what I would do if I were in their position), but obviously he is. Religion doesn't create monsters; situations, however, do!

Where am I going with all of this? No clue! But I just wonder, how far would I go to get what I want? How far would you go?

Suleiman stole my heart..

I've got the Monday Blues! Stayed late at work cause I'm swamped. Deadline for my 1248745875687 projects at hand? April 9th! *sigh* But anyway, today I don't want to complain about how I hate Mondays, I wanted to share with you, a finding. Some people might have heard of it, or are familiar with it, but Im A'antar and I discovered it last night (does someone telling Im A'antar about it also be considered as 'discovering' it?? Yes? No? Maybe? I don't know.. Can you repeat the question... You're not the boss of me noww... ) Moving on! So, what is this great finding you may ask? It's called Shankaboot. It's the first Arabic webdrama (for those who haven't figured it out yet, it's a drama series on the web.. I'm not judging) in the Middle East (as opposed to Arabic webdrama in Europe? Hmmm food for thought.. Anyway, it's basically about a 15 year old delivery boy named Suleiman, aka Shankaboot, and his adventures in Beirut. I'm rhyminggggggggg... Moving on.. again.. Each episode is around 4-5 minutes, and it's unbelievable what can be shown and portrayed in that time span because I am hooked. new episodes every Mondays and Wednesdays, and to all those who live in Beirut, this is what it's all about, and to all those who live abroad but whose hearts and souls are attached to Beirut, this series is as close to home as possible. It's raw, it's real, it's current and it's funny. Please check it out, the website is pretty cool as well. Each episode is accompanied by its own game. I guarantee you a new obsession. Enjoy!

Oh and it has English Subtitles, it's not the same but just in case you non-Arabic speakers decide to take a look.

Panic Atttaaaaacccckkkkk....

Last night, I was too tired to even move, so, decided to stay home, watch a movie, play Buzz.. I just needed to unwind, so a friend came over, and I don't know why it crossed my mind, or what brought it up but I was wondering whatever happened to Kill Bill Vol. 3? We all know it's a trilogy, and fine David Carradine passed away last year, but still.. why is it taking so long? So I went online and checked out the date of release, and.. you ready for this?? *drum roll please* Kill Bill Vol. 3 will be released in 2014. Yes people 2014. My friend looked at me and 'ballashit': "Shoo 2014?!?!?! I'll be 30 then.. And when that day comes, I'm going to look at you and say, remember 4 years ago when I was at you house and we were talking about Kill Bill Vol. 3? Seems like yesterday doesn't it??" That's where I started laughing, and she sort of had a panic attack. 30! Wow! I think I'm having a panic attack right now. Yes it's too soon. but come on, it was just yesterday when I was celebrating my 21st birthday! Not really, but you get the point! Time is passing by really quickly, what do I have to show for it? What do you have to show for it? Are you, today, where you said you would be 4-5 years ago? Did you accomplish anything? Has there been an improvement since last year? Exactly one year ago February 16? Are you still in the same place? If so, then I ask you to join Im A'antar (my friend from last night) and myself, in writing letters to our future selves in 2014, when we turn 30. Yes people, Im A'antar and I decided that we are going to write letters to our future selves, hoping to be where we want to be. (work, career, family, marriage, love, children, change etc...) Good luck, and I'll keep you posted with those letters!
